A native of Grand Forks, Kavadas is a 1957 graduate of UND with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He was a four-year letterwinner (1952-53-54-55) for the Sioux football team. Kavadas, a four-year started for the Sioux, played center and linebacker at UND and was an honorable mention All-NCC choice in '53, and All-NCC selection in '54 and an honorable mention Associated Press All-American and All-NCC pick in '55. He played for the Montreal Canadian Football League in 1956 before returning to UND to coach freshman football for two years.
