Recently named to UND's All-Century Team, Muckenhirn lettered four times as a tight end. His best season was 1979, when he led the team in receptions and was named Associated Press All-American, all-NCC, NCC Most Valuable Lineman, and UND's Most Outstanding Lineman. That season, Muckenhirn helped lead the Sioux to a 10-2 record, the North Central Conference Championship and a birth in the NCAA playoffs. His 11 career touchdown receptions ranked him eight on UND's all-time list. In 1977 Muckenhirn had 10 receptions for 156 yards and four touchdowns to rank third on the team in receptions. He ranked second on the team in receptions in 1978 as he posted 18 receptions for 296 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for one touchdown. In 1979, Muckenhirn did it all as he caught 33 receptions for 487 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for two more touchdowns and completed 2-of-3 passes for 59 yards and one touchdown. A native of Mahnomen, Minn., Muckenhirn graduated in 1981 with a degree in Industrial Technology and a minor in coaching.
