Deutsch earned all North Central Conference and All-America honors as a runningback during the early 1970's. A three-year letterwinner, 1970-71-72, Deutsch was the NCC Most Valuable Player in 1972 and played in the Blue-Gray Classic. In 1971 and 1972 he led UND to NCC Championships and to the Camellia Bowl that same year. Besides being a football star he also lettered in track. Deutsch graduated from UND in 1973.
