A product of Grand Forks, Nancy Demmers Nelson earned her bachelor’s degree in education from UND after an illustrious and multi-faceted athletic career. She played four years of basketball at UND from 1966-70, three years of volleyball from 1967-70, two years of field hockey form 1968-70 and one year each of golf, softball and swimming. And she played well. She earned MVP honors as a UND basketball and volleyball player and also won the Grace O. Rhonemus Award. Nancy was also a member of Delta Psi Kappa, the women’s physical education honorary. Since graduating from UND, she has been basketball coach and Director of Residence at Bismarck Mary College, a UND basketball coach as a graduate student, an engineering technician for the North Dakota Department of Transportation, and a substitute teacher and junior high basketball coach in Grand Forks. Currently, she is Engineering Coordinator and Safety Director at Ideal Aerosmith, In. Nancy and her husband Allen, also a UND graduate, have three children (Scott, Melinda and Lanae).
