In 1967 he was named to both the NCAA Division I and II cross-country All America teams. He repeated in 1968 in Division II as an All American in 1969. In track he won All America honors in 1968 and again in 1969 in both the national three-mile and six-mile records. He was also named the 1969-70 UND Athlete of the Year. His name is still found in the UND track record book, holding six records, ranging from a mile to 10 miles. There is little doubt that he has ranks as UND's greatest distance runner of all time.
