Edwards ranks as one of the most outstanding swimmers in UND history as she received numerous honors and excelled at the national level in several events. She lettered in each of her four years at UND, earned 19 All-America honors and 15 individual NCC titles during her career, which she capped off by being named the NCC's Stan Marshall Award winner in 1985. Her lists of accomplishments also include being named 1984 North Dakota Female Athlete of the Year (as voted by the North Dakota sportswriters and sportscasters), 1985 Top Female-Student Athlete and a GTE Academic All-American in 1984 and 1985. She also won the 1984 NCAA Division II National Championship in the 50-yard freestyle. In 1985 she graduated from UND with a degree in computer science.
