Engelstad, a native of Thief River Falls, Minn., played hockey on some of the first UND teams following World War II as UND entered big-time ranks. He lettered as a goaltender 1948-49 and 1949-50. Engelstad graduated in business administration in 1954 and achieve great success in the business world. He owns the fabulous Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas and has other real estate and business interests in the United States. Before any of this began he started out as a construction worker and then started his own construction business. Engelstad was a long time supporter of Sioux Athletics and the University of North Dakota.
