A native of Roseau, Minnesota, Larson earned four letters at UND as a heavyweight wrestler from 1979-83. A three-time NCAA Division II All-American, he placed fifth in the nation in 1980 and placed third in 1982 and 1983. From 1981-83 Larson compiled an outstanding 28-0-1 dual record which included his best ever single-season mark of 30-5-1 during 1982-83. Larson finished his wrestling career with a 98-26-2 overall record. He graduated in 1983 from UND with a criminal justice degree.
