Leafe, a native of Marinette, Wis., lettered three years as an outstanding end for Coach C.A. (Jack) West football teams. He also lettered his junior and senior years on Clem Letich's basketball teams as a guard-forward. Leafe was named to the all NCC football team twice and to the Collier's Little All America football team in 1940. He was the only sophomore in 1938 to make the first team for West. And he was mentioned in Grantland Rice's column with Iowa All-American Nile Kinnick as Iron-Men. He played all but three minuets of every game in 1940.
