A Valley City native, the late Bill McCosh starred for UND basketball teams from 1936-39, earning three letters and captaining the Sioux during the 1938-39 season. A forward for the Sioux, he was an All-North Central Conference selection in 1937-38. Additionally, McCosh served as senior class President at UND. After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UND in 1939, McCosh hitchhiked from North Dakota to New York in search of his first job. McCosh worked in marketing in New York for six years and also was in business in Chicago and Philadelphia. He also served on the U.S.S. Columbus during World War II. Among Bill’s interests were golf, carpentry, bowling and cooking. Bill McCosh died in New York on July 25, 1962. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, and children, Gary Charles McCosh and Sandra Ann McCosh.
