Hall of Fame
A product of Bismarck, Bill Leifur was a three-sport letterwinner at UND from 1959-62. He played basketball for three seasons as a guard (1959-62), football for two years as a quarterback (1960 and 1961) and participated in track for three seasons, throwing the shot put and javelin and running the mile relay from 19060-62. Bill was a football co-captain in 1961 and had been voted North Dakota’s Athlete of the Year in 1958 (between Steve Myhra in 1957 and Roger Maris in 1959). He also was president of the UND Letterman’s Club and was a member of the Blue Key Fraternity. Leifur was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1962. Bill served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1966-69 and since 1969 has been a dentist in Bismarck. Since his days at UND, he has been president of the North Dakota State Board of Dentistry and has been a member of 19 North Dakota State Amateur Basketball championship teams from 1970-94. His family includes wife, Joan, and children Carol, Con, Laura, Kris and Tom, who also played for the Sioux football team.
