A native of Harwood, N.D., McHugh came to UND in the fall of 1988. As a member of the volleyball team, McHugh distinguished herself as one of the top volleyball players in the nation.

In the 1992 season, McHugh ranked at the top of many NCAA Division II statistical categories: second in kills (6.029), sixth in hitting percentage (.459), eighth in blocks (1.5) and ninth in service aces per game (.829).

In her career, McHugh earned three All-NCC honors, three All-Region honors, and named to the Volleyball Monthly All-American Team in 1991. McHugh currently holds the UND record for number of career kills, total blocks, block assists and solo blocks.
