Hall of Fame
Hester earned his spot in the UND Athletic Hall of Fame primarily on the hardwood of the basketball court. A three-year letterwinner, 1965-66-67, Hester was a two-time All-North Central Conference selection. He ranked 14th on UND's career scoring list with 1, 082 points, teamed with Phil Jackson to lead UND to two NCC championships. In 1964-65, the Sioux squad coached by Bill Fitch posted a 26-5 record and finished third in the NCAA College Division National Tournament. In 1965-66, the Sioux were 24-5 and finished fourth in the national tourney. The next year the team was 20-6 and finished third in the NCAA's Midwest Region Tournament. Hester also started nine football games for UND as a senior flanker in 1966 that helped lead the Fighting Sioux to an 8-2 record, the NCC title and played in the Pecan Bowl in Texas. After college he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints of the NFL and played three seasons as a tight end. In 1969 he was traded to he Chicago Bears and played one more year with them.
