Skinner a three-time letterwinner in golf, earned the distinct honor of being the first Sioux golfer to be named All-America, and he went on to achieve this honor in each of his three years at UND. As a team, the Fighting Sioux won NCC titles in all three seasons, and Skinner placed 18th in the 1981 NCAA Tournament and 27th in 1982. After graduating from UND in 1983 with a degree in Information Management, Skinner was an eight-time best-ball champion of North Dakota. He considers UND's victory at the 1982 North Central Conference Tournament after trailing heading into the final round to be his favorite memory.
