  Amick is a native of Minot, N.D. He lettered three years, 1935-37 as a standout guard on Sioux football teams. At UND he was a two-time All NCC football guard 1936-37, earned honorable mention 1935 as sophomore and served as team captain in 1937. Amick was also Co-Captain in 1937. He graduated in 19378 with a B.S. degree in physical education. "My physical education degree prepared me for my career of 38 years of teaching, coaching and administration of athletics in a very excellent manner," Amick said. He was regarded as one of the finest football linemen in the midwest during his playing days.
