GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Hawks open Missouri Valley Football Conference play on the road against an Indiana State squad that is coming off back-to-back wins to close out their non-conference slate. This will be the third straight road game for UND, who is coming off a 34-7 loss at Nebraska.
UND has only played three straight on the road once since moving up to the FCS level prior to the 2008 season. The three-game road stretch came in 2009 when the team played its first three games of that campaign away from the Alerus Center.
This is the second straight year that UND opens conference play on the road -- a season ago the Fighting Hawks beat Northern Iowa 35-7 to ignite a 4-0 start in MVFC play.
The Sycamores were the fourth MVFC victim in that hot start by NoDak as they dropped a 46-17 decision to UND in the Alerus Center.
Indiana State went 3-9 a season ago and 1-7 in MVFC play -- the Sycamores lone Valley win was a 24-12 victory at No. 4/5 South Dakota State.
