SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After a historical indoor season, North Dakota distance runner
Jadyn Keeler earned the title of Summit League Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the league offices announced Thursday.
Keeler made school history at the NCAA Indoor Championships, becoming a Second Team All-American and finishing 10th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:31.63. By competing at the meet, she became the first individual to compete in a track event at the indoor national meet in UND's Division I history. She was also just the fourth Fighting Hawk to compete at the meet in North Dakota's Division I history.
The Barrie, Ontario, native, entered the national meet ranked No. 17 in the country in the 5,000 meters and was the No. 16 seed. She qualified for the meet with a time of 15:28.29 in the 5,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational this February. At that meet in Boston, Keeler was the fifth collegiate runner to cross the finish line and obliterated her previous school record time of 15:57.19, which she set on that same track this past December.
At the Summit League Indoor Championships, Keeler was a triple crown winner and had three All-Summit League performances. She captured the crown in the mile (4:45.90), 3,000 meters (9:21.78) and 5,000 meters (16:20.88). With her 5,000-meter time, she shattered the Summit League Indoor Championships record time of 16:25.16, set by Jennie Baragar-Petrash of North Dakota State in 2021. At the conclusion of the meet, Keeler was named the Track Championship M.V.P.
During the regular season, Keeler set new school records in the mile (4:44.03), 3,000 meters (9:17.58) and 5,000 meters (15:28.29). She was named the Kwik Star Summit League Women's Peak Performer of the Month for her performances in February and was the Kwik Star Women's Track Peak Performer of the Week thrice.
Keeler and the Fighting Hawks will resume the outdoor season next week at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic (April 3-5), Stanford Invitational (April 4-5) and USD Early Bird (April 4-5).
