VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Kenna Curry and
Jadyn Keeler from the North Dakota track and field team made history and both picked up All-America accolades at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday. Curry was 10th in the weight throw with a toss of 71-5 1/2 (21.78m), while Keeler took 10th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:31.63. It marked just the second time in UND's Division I history that a pair of Fighting Hawks competed at the meet.
Curry became and Second Team All-American with her finish and is the first Fighting Hawk in UND's Division I history to partake in back-to-back NCAA Indoor Championships. She remains the third UND student-athlete to compete at the indoor national meet, also finishing 14th and picking up Second Team All-America honors last season in the weight throw with a toss of 67-3 1/2 (20.51m).
The Elk Point, S.D, native entered the meet with the No. 6 mark nationally in the weight throw. Her school-record throw of 75-0 1/2 (22.87m) at the East Coast Invitational this February qualified her for the meet and broke the previous program record mark of 72-1 3/4 (21.99m), set by Molli Detloff at the 2019 Summit League Indoor Championships.
Two weeks ago, at the Summit League Indoor Championships, Curry had a pair of All-Summit League performances and won the titles in both the weight throw (70-6 1/4, 21.49m) and shot put (50-3 1/2, 15.33m). At the conclusion of the meet, she was named the Field Championship M.V.P.
Keeler became a Second Team All-American at the meet and is now just the fourth Fighting Hawk in UND's Division I history to participate in the NCAA Indoor Championships. She also became the first Fighting Hawk to compete at the meet in a track event in school history.
The Barrie, Ontario, native came into the meet ranked No. 17 in the country in the 5,000 meters and was the No. 16 seed. She qualified for the meet with a time of 15:28.29 in the 5,000 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational this February. At that Boston meet, Keeler obliterated her previous school record time of 15:57.19, which she set on that same track this past December.
At the Summit League Indoor Championships, Keeler was a triple crown winner and had three All-Summit League performances. She won the mile (4:45.90), 3,000 meters (9:21.78) and 5,000 meters (16:20.88). With her 5,000-meter time, she shattered the Summit League Indoor Championships record time of 16:25.16, set by Jennie Baragar-Petrash of North Dakota State in 2021. At the end of the meet, Keeler was named the Track Championship M.V.P.
The Fighting Hawks have already kicked off this outdoor season and are competing at the Riverside Open in California on the campus of Riverside Community College. That meet began Friday morning and is currently taking place. Live results of the Riverside Open can be followed on
