UND women have best finish at conference meet since 2012, Hawks win seven golds

BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota added 11 medals to its count at the Summit League Indoor Championships on Saturday, including four gold medals. At the meet, UND finished with 19 medals and seven gold medals, highlighted by Jadyn Keeler becoming a triple crown winner at the meet.

The Fighting Hawk women were the story of the meet, earning a runner-up finish in the team race with 151 points. The second-place team finish is the best for the UND women at an indoor conference meet since finishing as the runners-up at the 2012 Great West Indoor Championships.

The Bison edged the Fighting Hawks on the women's side by a tally of 188.5-151. In the men's team race, the NoDak men took fourth with 74 points, which was a one-spot improvement from 2024. South Dakota State's men won the meet on that side with 164.5 points.

Keeler, the winner of the women's 3,000 meters on Friday, captured the title in both the mile and 5,000 meters on Saturday. In the mile, Keeler out-ran the rest of the competition and won gold with a time of 4:45.90. Keeler completed the triple crown and won the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:20.88.

With Keeler's 5,000-meter time, she shattered the Summit League Indoor Championships record time of 16:25.16, set by Jennie Baragar-Petrash of North Dakota State in 2021. At the conclusion of the meet, Keeler was named the Track Championship M.V.P. and became a three-time All-Summit League performer at the meet with the three titles.

Kenna Curry, who was victorious in the weight throw on Friday, won gold in the shot put on Saturday with a toss of 50-3 1/2 (15.33m). At the end of the meet, she earned the title of Field Championship M.V.P. and earned All-Summit League status twice at the meet.

Brooklyn Brouse also captured gold in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:10.65 and moved up to No. 4 on the UND top-10 list with that time and garnered All-Summit League status.

Ethan Thomas became an All-Summit League performer and picked up the silver medal in the men's shot put with a personal-best toss of 60-11 1/4 (18.57m). He broke his own school record with the throw and improved his previous record of 60-6 3/4 (18.46m), set at the East Coast Invitational at the beginning of February.

Jerzie Finstad also earned a silver medal, got All-Summit League accolades and edged out a school record. In the women's 400 meters, she was the runner-up in 54.11 and broke the record of Lucy Steinmeyer, who set it at 54.46 at the 2021 Summit League Indoor Championships.

Jiri Ceska gained All-Summit League accolades in the men's 800 meters and was the silver medalist in 1:51.30.

Matej Hrebacka was also a silver medalist on the track in the 5,000 meters and posted the second-fastest time in program history with a PR of 14:09.77. His finish earned him All-Summit League honors.

Jory Vasek earned the bronze in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 47.80 to also receive All-Summit League status. Vasek bettered his own record of 47.81, set at the SDSU Indoor Classic this February.

Towards the end of the meet, Vasek was also part of UND's 4x400-meter relay team along with Maverick Kneefe, Henry Nelson and P.K. Moore, which all earned bronze medals and All-Summit League honors with a time of 3:16.03. That relay time now ranks No. 2 in UND history.

Eve Goldstein helped get the scoring started for the Fighting Hawks early Saturday afternoon and was the bronze medalist in the shot put with a mark of 46-9 1/2 (14.26m). Her performance earned her a spot on the All-Summit League Team.

Marta Marksa was fourth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.47. Her time broke her own school record of 8.48, which she set in prelims on Friday.

Shane Zierden and James Weninger each had fourth-place finishes in their respective events for the NoDak men. Zierden was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 48-4 (14.73m), while Weninger was fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-8 1/4 (2.04m).

Justina Esangbedo broke the her own program record in the triple jump and finished fifth with a leap of 40-1 1/2 (12.23m). Her previous record of 39-7 1/4 (12.07m) was set at the 2024 Summit League Indoor Championships. Earlier in the meet, Esangbedo also added three points in the shot put and was sixth with a personal-best toss of 45-7 3/4 (13.91m). Her PR moved her up to No. 9 in the event in UND history.

At the end of the meet, UND's 4x400-meter relay squad of Kimberly Hitchen, Nadia Evans, Brouse and Finstad edged out the school record and placed fifth with a time of 3:45.64. They broke the previous record of 3:45.91, set by Ashley Rone, Paige Slemmons, Heather Harrower and Tianna McKinney at SDSU in 2016.

Eliana Malnourie picked up points in both the 5,000 meters and mile. In the 5,000 meters, she posted a PR time of 16:53.05 and improved her No. 6 time on the UND top-10 list to place fifth. She was seventh in the mil in 4:53.94.

Henrik Lindstrot finished sixth in the mile in a time of 4:12.49.

Julia Matthews also scored points in the women's shot put and was seventh with a throw of 45-7 (13.89m). She added her name to the UND top-10 list with that No. 10 throw in school history.

Kollberg gained three points for the Fighting Hawks on Saturday. She took seventh in the high jump with a height of 5-3 3/4 (1.62m) and placed eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68.

Evans was also seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 24.71.

Boaz Raderschadt was eighth in the men's shot put with a throw of 49-3 1/2 (15.02m).

Jonas Weschle and Trenton Hanseder fell short of placing in their respective events but made improvements to the UND top-10 list. Weschle was less than two seconds away from placing in the 5,000 meters and took ninth with a PR time of 14:34.02, moving him up to No. 6 in school history. Hanseder moved up to No. 5 on the UND top-10 list in the triple jump with a PR of 46-5 1/2 (14.16m) and took 10th.

Student-athletes who rank in the top-16 nationally following the conference meets this weekend will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., on March 14-15.

* North Dakota finished the Summit League Indoor Championships with 19 medals, with seven of them being gold.
* The UND women finished second in the team competition with 151 points. It was the best team finish for the women at an indoor conference meet since finishing as the runners-up at the 2012 Great West Indoor Championships.
* The Fighting Hawk men finished fourth in the team race with 74 points. It was a one-spot improvement from 2024.

* At the Summit League Indoor Championships, Keeler (mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters), Curry (weight throw and shot put), Tiffanie Magnusson (pentathlon) and Brooklyn Brouse (800 meters) all won Summit League titles.
