SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After impressive performances in Virginia Beach last weekend, North Dakota's throwers earned a pair of Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week accolades, the conference offices announced on Tuesday.
Kenna Curry was named the Kwik Star Summit League Women's Field Peak Performer of the Week after taking down three weight throw records in Virginia on Friday. She won the weight throw at the East Coast Invitational and shattered the school record with a toss of 75-0 1/2 (22.87m). Her throw broke the previous record mark of 72-1 3/4 (21.99m), set by Molli Detloff at the 2019 Summit League Indoor Championships. Curry's throw currently sits No. 4 in the NCAA.
Along with the school record, Curry's throw also destroyed both the Virginia Beach Sports Complex facility record and the East Coast Invitational meet record. The previous facility record was held by Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir with a throw of 69-9 1/2 (21.27m) at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. The meet record before Curry's throw was 58-5 (17.81m), set by Arieana Parker of Norfolk State in 2022. On Saturday at the meet, Curry took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 49-4 3/4 (15.06m).
Ethan Thomas also received Kwik Star Summit League accolades after his performances in Virginia and was the Men's Field Peak Performer of the Week. He broke his own program record in the shot put on Saturday and placed sixth with a toss of 60-6 3/4 (18.46m). He bettered his previous record of 59-6 1/4 (18.14m), which he set at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet in Brookings two weeks ago. His throw currently ranks No. 43 in the NCAA.
The Fighting Hawks will visit Brookings for the SDSU Indoor Classic this Friday and Saturday, while select members of the distance squad will take part in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston on those days. Live results for both meets can be found on
