NOTES: UND back home for Summit League - Big Sky matchup with Eastern Washington

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota welcomes its final nonconference opponent, Eastern Washington, to the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks matchup with the Eagles is the first of three straight home games at the Betty.

Series History vs Eastern Washington
North Dakota leads 6-4 all-time against Eastern Washington and has found success at the Betty against the Eagles with a 4-1 record. The Hawks won 81-79 in the team's last meeting in 2018.
 
The series has been tightly contested with seven of the 10 games being decided by under five points and by single-digits eight times. The Fighting Hawks own both double-digit wins with an 82-60 win in 2014 and a 96-82 win in 2015.
 
Last Time Out: vs Idaho State
The Hawks received major contributions from the starting five, who scored 65 of their 78 points in the six-point win over Idaho State. Five Hawks reached double-figures with Kiera Pemberton tallying all 13 bench points for UND.
 
Miranda VanderWal had a game-high 18 points and was followed by Kacie Borowicz (16), Sammiyah Hoskin (13) and Kiyah Hurst (12) in the scoring column. VanderWal and Borowicz dished out four assists as the Hawks tied a season-high with 16 helpers.
 
UND used a strong quarter to build a 41-30 advantage at the halftime intermission, but the Bengals roared back in the third quarter to cut the NoDak lead to four heading into the final frame. UND led by as many as 11 in the fourth and would connect on all four free throws in the final minute to secure the 78-72 win.
 
VanderWal's Career Day
In UND's first game of the Summit League - Big Sky Challenge, Miranda VanderWal had a career day to lead the Hawks to a 78-72 win over Idaho State on Jan. 3. She led NoDak in scoring for the first time this season with a career-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including her first three-pointer in the green and white. Alongside her scoring output, VanderWal also dished the rock against ISU tying for a team high with four assists, another new career-best, as UND tied a season-high with 16 assists as a team.
 
VanderWal grabbed seven rebounds in the contest, with two off the offensive glass, and swatted two Bengal shot attempts.
 
Borowicz Sets Division I Scoring Record
With her 32 points against St. Thomas, Kacie Borowicz set the North Dakota Division I scoring record passing Lexi Klabo's total of 1,633 points. Borowicz moved into seventh on the UND all-time scoring list. Borowicz has reached the 20-point mark in six games this season and has been the Hawks leading scorer nine times.
 
The fifth-year guard from Roseau, Minn. scored 674 points last season, the most by a Fighting Hawks since Marisa Leighton's 682 points in 2003-04.
 
Borowicz in the Rankings
Kacie Borowicz is the Summit League leader and ranks 17th nationally in points per game at 20.5. Borowicz is second in The Summit and 10th in the NCAA in free throw percentage at .921 percent.
 
She ranks sixth in the conference in field goal percentage at .398, first in made free throws with 58 and second in steals per game with 2.2.
 
Boards and Buckets
Kiera Pemberton is one of eight freshmen in the NCAA to average over 9.0 points per game, over 6.0 rebounds per game and shoot over .550 from the field. She has been one of the most efficient scoring options for the Fighting Hawks so for this season with a .587 shooting percentage for 9.1 points per game. The freshmen from Langley, B.C. has reached double-digit scoring in five games.
 
Pemberton has shot over .750 percent in four games this season, including the game against Grand Canyon where she posted her first career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds on 7-for-9 shooting.
 
Pemberton played a season-high 28 minutes against Eastern Michigan and turned in a 13-point and seven-rebound performance against the Eagles. She went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with 12 points in the win over Minot State.
 
1,500-Point Club
With 20 points against Grand Canyon, Kacie Borowicz became the 13th North Dakota women's basketball player to reach 1,500 career points. She is the second player in the Division I era to reach the career milestone, after Lexi Klabo who scored 1,665 career points in the green and white from 2015-19.
