NOTES: North Dakota Prepares to Battle Oral Roberts

QUICK JUMPERS

* North Dakota continues on the road to finish off the regular season. They will play Oral Roberts before heading to Fargo to play North Dakota State.

*The Fighting Hawks head into Saturday's game with an overall record of 15-12 and a conference record of 9-7 after falling to the Kansas City Roos (71-61).

* Kacie Borowicz led with 24 points, had three rebounds, three assists, and one block.

* Olivia Lane was second in scoring for the Fighting Hawks against the Roos. She finished the evening with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

* Melissa Leet ended the night narrowly missing a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds. She had five blocks against the Roos.

* Maggie Manson finished the evening with six points and two assists.

* Allie McCarthy stepped in off the bench to net five points and secure two rebounds.

* North Dakota currently sits 16th in the NCAA Top 25 for rebounding with 1066 this season.

* North Dakota currently sits in the NCAA Top 25 for free-throw percentage. They are 10th with a percentage of .788 as a team.

* North Dakota currently trails the Golden Eagles 5-2 in the series.

The North Dakota Fighting Hawks continue on the road to play the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19.

LAST TIME OUT

The University of North Dakota fell to Kansas City 71-61 on Thursday evening. The Roos took the initial lead, the Fighting Hawks tied it soon after. The Roos then went on a 6-0 run to give them the 8-2 lead with 8:14 left in the first quarter. North Dakota hit a three, but the Roos continued to extend the run to 12-3 before the Fighting Hawks bounced back. The back-and-forth battle continued in the first, but the Roos kept the 17-12 lead headed into the first. In the second quarter, the teams failed to score until 8:51 when Naomie Alnatas nets layup to start the scoring. The teams traded baskets until the Fighting Hawks went on a 10-0 run led by McCarthy with five of the ten points to give them the 24-21 lead with 3:41 left in the quarter. The Roos stopped the run and kept it within one, but the Fighting Hawks went on another 8-0 run to make it an overall 18-4 run and put them up 32-26 at the end of the half. North Dakota started the second quarter with momentum as Lane and Leet scored the first five points in the half to extend the Fighting Hawks lead. The battle continued as the teams started to trade baskets, but the Fighting Hawks maintained a six-point lead headed into the fourth (48-42). Leet stepped out of the quarter break and hit a jumper to extend the lead to eight, but Brooklyn McDavid hit a jumper to keep it a back-and-forth ball game. The Roos went on a 13-0 run to give them the 57-52 lead with 5:58 left in the game. The Fighting Hawks continued to battle, but Kansas City continued to attack on offense to give them the 71-61 win.

 

ALL-TIME WITH ORAL ROBERTS

The University of North Dakota is trailing Oral Roberts in the series 5-2. The last time that the two teams played each other was on Jan. 20, 2022. The Fighting Hawks beat the Golden Eagles 53-34 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

A COMPLETE 180

Despite being chosen ninth in the 2021, Summit League preseason poll, the Fighting Hawks enter the contest with a 9-7 conference record to place them fifth in the standings. This has been a turnaround from last season where North Dakota's conference record was 2-13.

LANE AND BOROWICZ = DOUBLE TROUBLE

Olivia Lane secured her fifth double-double in the last two and a half weeks with 14 points and 16 rebounds against Kansas City. Borowicz has also ended in double figures during the last five games. She led the Fighting Hawks with 24 points against the Roos. She currently sits tied for first with Naomie Alnatas for leading scorer in the Summit with 19.1 points. Together, these two had 38 of the 61 points that the Fighting Hawks scored.

 

SCOUTING ORAL ROBERTS

Oral Roberts enters the game with a 9-8 overall record and a 4-2 conference record. The Golden Eagles opened their season at home with a 97-63 win against Rogers State. The Golden Eagles then hosted UNLV, but they fell 81-85. They headed on the road to Colorado State (56-71) and SMU (44-81) where they suffered their second and third losses. Their fourth loss would come as they hosted Tulsa (55-69) at home. Oral Roberts hosted the ORU Thanksgiving Classic, where they broke the losing streak wins against Arkansas State (81-62) and Little Rock (74-56). The Golden Eagles returned to road play with a game at Wichita State, which they lost 62-78.  They returned home and beat USAO (73-26) and Central Christian (120-52). They rounded out non-conference play by returning to the road to play Tarleton State (55-59) and Abilene Christian (69-66). Their first conference game was against the South Dakota Coyotes who they lost to 59-90. They then hosted the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and lost 51-71. Their Dec. 30 game against Denver was postponed, but they traveled to Omaha and beat the Mavericks 50-45. The Golden Eagles had two more games postponed due to COVID, but they returned to action in their rescheduled game against Denver where they won 62-53. They continued the winning streak at home against Kansas City (77-66) and St. Thomas (72-44). The Golden Eagles then traveled to North Dakota where they lost to North Dakota (34-53) and North Dakota State (70-74). They returned home to host Omaha who they beat 64-55, but they were unable to beat Denver in overtime (64-69). Oral Roberts then played three straight on the road. They beat Western Illinois (71-55) and St. Thomas (73-67) but fell to Kansas City (63-69). They have since returned home beat Western Illinois (93-74) and North Dakota State (68-64).

Following Saturday afternoon's game, the University of North Dakota heads to Fargo to face inner-state rival North Dakota State. The tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
