ON TAP

After finishing up the TD Bank Classic with a 1-1 record, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks will play the Siena Saints in New York. The game will tip-off at 6 p.m. CT.

OFF THE BENCH

The North Dakota women's basketball team has had to deal with some absences from former starters early in the season. Although this may have been troubling at first, UND has been able to adjust and learn to trust their bench. This has proven to be helpful as they start to get into the regular season. As the missing players return, the Fighting Hawks are still using their bench players to produce points and maintain their momentum. Against the Brown Bears, Olivia Lane was one player who came off the bench and helped them offensively and defensively. She scored 11 points while securing 12 rebounds. At the end of the contest, North Dakota's bench had contributed 25 of their 65 points. This beat Brown's bench points by double-digits (UND 25 - Brown 8).

ALL-TIME WITH SIENA

The North Dakota and Siena women's basketball programs have never met in their histories. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Fighting Hawks and Saints.

LAST TIME OUT

The Fighting Hawks beat the Brown Bear (65-46) to close out their outing at the TD Bank Classic Tournament hosted by the University of Vermont. Brown started off the first quarter with a 4-0 run. UND was able to get some points on the board to stop the extended run. Joli Daninger caused a turnover and gained a steal to help the Hawks tie the game in the middle of the quarter. After a timeout, the Hawks took the lead with a quick two, but Brown would score a three to take the lead. Claire Orth stepped up and took a quick jumper for the final lead change of the game. In the second quarter, Brown suffered a scoring drought for the first 5:30 of the quarter that helped North Dakota increase their lead. Brown eventually hit a stride, but it was not going to be enough to help them regain the lead before the half. Although they were down at half, the Bears came out and went on a 5-0 run to start the third. Olivia Lane helped put points on the board after 3:08 in the third had gone by. Once the first points were scored, UND took it as a green light on offense. They went on an 11-0 run at the end of the third to increase their lead. The Hawks were able to hold onto the lead as they reached the end of the fourth, which is when new faces took the court. Allie McCarthy added to points off the bench. She was followed by Carlee Sieben who scored the final three points of the game to put the win away for North Dakota (65-46). UND shot 40.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the three-point line compared to Brown's 26.6 percent from field and 27.3 percent from the three.

LAYUP LANE

Olivia Lane's return was one that UND was excited about as they headed into the weekend. After missing a few regular season games, Lane returned to the court with the Hawks for the TD Bank Classic. She was a great addition off the bench, especially against Brown on Nov. 28. The junior forward from Pequot Lakes, Minn. ended the game with a double-double (11 pts, 12 rebs). Lane stepped in for Leet and took her spot on the bottom block. All but four of her eleven points were from layups. The four in question were off free throws. Lane's execution on the block was beneficial, but her rebounding was another key for the Hawks as they finished the weekend 1-1.

SCOUTING SIENA

Siena enters the game with a 0-5 overall record. The Saints opened their season at Binghamton falling to the Bearcats, 55-59. They continued their road travels and fell to St. Bonaventure (42-50), Lafayette (44-49), and New Hampshire (45-59). Siena hosted their first home game against Duquesne, but they were unable to gain a win and suffered a 49-59 loss. Siena gained a new active player in the past week. Selena Philoxy is a senior transfer who joined the program last winter from Seton Hall and Stetson. Siena was picked ninth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. They currently sit ninth in the standings.
