THE LAST MEETINGS IN BRIEF
Points off turnovers proved to be the difference in the contest at NDSU as the Bison were +19, however, the Fighting Hawks capitalized on the offensive glass as they scored 10 second chance points.
On Jan. 18, UND outrebounded SDSU, 41-37, as it went +4 on the defensive glass. The Jackrabbits physical style proved effective as they went to the free throw line 26 times, converting 21 baskets to the Fighting Hawks 10.
FLEECS' GAME IS ON FLEEK
Sophomore
Julia Fleecs had a breakout weekend for the Fighting Hawks making her third and fourth starts of the season, respectively. Shooting 57.6 percent from the field (19-of-33), the Glidden, Iowa native averaged 24 points and was a flawless 8-of-8 at the free-throw line.
Though she fouled out in 29 minutes on the floor at Western Illinois, the red-hot sophomore scored a Fighting Hawk season-best 33 points, besting
Lexi Klabos' 30-point efforts at Rhode Island (Nov. 27) and UMass (Nov. 28).
THE EFFORT AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE
Julia Fleecs 33 points at WIU were the most scored by a UND player in a league contest since Megan Lauck dropped 36 points in the regular season finale at Southern Utah on March 9, 2013.
Lexi Klabo accounted for 31 points in the season finale at Sacramento State last year.
Fleecs 30-point effort was the 10th in North Dakota's Division I history and its 18th such performance since 2004-05.
A CARDIAC COMEBACK
If Head Coach
Travis Brewster had his way, each win for North Dakota would cause him as little stress as possible, but no coach is ever that lucky. Last time out at Omaha, the Fighting Hawks overcame a 12-point first half deficit to earn their second double-digit comeback of the season.
During the team's trip to Florida at the Stetson Tournament, UND erased a 13-point deficit on Dec. 21 against San Francisco to force double overtime and earn a 100-97 victory over the Dons.
LEXI EXCAVATING THE RECORD BOOK
Lexi Klabo has moved into 13th place on UND's all-time scoring list, passing current associate head coach
Mallory Bernhard (Youngblut) and former teammate Mia Loyd in the process. At her current pace (18.1 ppg), she would crack into the top 10 (1,531) in the next three games. She's also broke the free throw makes record and is currently among the leaders in blocked shots and has moved into the top 10 in rebounds as well.
