Notes: Another B1G challenge

ON TAP
North Dakota plays the second of its three games at power conference schools when it travels to Penn State for a Wednesday afternoon matinee. UND opened the season at Syracuse (ACC) and get Iowa State (Big 12) later in the season.

LAST ACTION
Illinois State held North Dakota to just 29 percent shooting in a 67-55 win Wednesday evening at Redbird Arena. ISU got out to a double-digit lead and never looked back, despite several North Dakota runs to trim the lead, including a late spurt that saw UND close it to five midway through the fourth.UND made just 3-of-23 from distance in the loss. Senior Lexi Klabo led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds for her 21st career double-double.

THE SERIES WITH PENN STATE
First-ever meeting between the schools.

UND'S RECORD vs. B1G TEN SCHOOLS
North Dakota is in search of its first-ever win over a B1G Ten school, going 0-10 in the Division I era. UND last played a B1G Ten school in 2016-17 at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center against Iowa (75-60 L).

WHAT'S GOOD?
*UND has averaged 17 wins per season in Travis Brewster's tenure, including four postseason appearances (2014- NCAA, 2015, 2016- WBI, 2017- WNIT) and a pair of conference titles (2014, 2017- Big Sky)
*North Dakota hasn't had back-to-back losing seasons since 1986-87 and only has nine seasons below .500 in 43 seasons.
*UND is 168-41 (.804) all-time at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center (since 2004).

PRESEASON PICK
Klabo was named to the Summit League Preseason All-First Team. She averaged 19.0 points and 9.3 rebounds last season as a Big Sky First Team as a junior.

CHERYL MILLER WATCH LIST
Lexi Klabo was one of just 20 national players named to the 2019 Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, announced in October. Klabo is among the power conferences' best at the forward position and is one of only three nominees from a mid-major school. Now in its second season, the award is given to the top small forward in all of NCAA Division I basketball.

ROAD WARRIORS
UND will spend the entire month of November on the road. The Fighting Hawks will return home a few times but will have six games over four road trips, part of seven straight road games to open the season. See the full pdf for a breakdown of the road slate to start the season:

North Dakota will play 11 of its 13 non-conference games away from the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. It starts with seven consecutive road games before the home opener on Dec. 7 vs. Milwaukee.
