GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season by defeating Omaha 67-52, on Tuesday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

UND (1-2) was led by Makailah Dyer who scored 23 points to lead all players while Samantha Roscoe tallied a career-high 14 points to lead UND in the post.

Omaha (1-1) got out of the gate quickly, leading 12-5 at one point and taking a 16-11 lead through one quarter. The UND defense, however, took over, allowing just five points in the second quarter and just 36 in the final 30 minutes en route to the win.

The key sequence to kickstart the run was an 8-0 run fueled by Dyer's perimeter game. With the Mavericks in a zone defense, the junior calmly swished a long three on a great feed from the post by Roscoe, then did it again from the same spot seconds later. She would also add a transition bucket in the spurt, scoring eight straight North Dakota points as the home team scored ten straight and allowed UNO just one field goal to take a 25-21 lead into halftime.

Out of the break, Omaha would tie it on several occasions until a Stephanie Smith basket got another 10-0 period-ending run started. UND only was tested for a few minutes in the fourth quarter as the Mavs trimmed it to nine, but six straight free-throw makes, including four by Dyer, sealed the deal.

North Dakota improved to 8-1 over Summit League teams since its transititon to Division I. Roscoe etched another double-digit scoring game, pouring in a career-best 14 in the win.

UND will embark on a three-game road trip beginning Sunday at Drake. North Dakota will then head to San Francisco (Nov. 25) and Oregon (Nov. 28) before its next home game (Dec. 5 vs. Western Illinois).

Samantha Roscoe made her second career start and has now registered double figures in scoring in all three games this season (0 entering this year) ...
