GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Junior
Mia Loyd poured in a career-high 28 points to lead a pack of four North Dakota scorers in double figures as the host team raced past Mayville State, 98-54, Tuesday night at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
After a 19-point, 22-rebound effort in last season's win over the Comets, Loyd stuffed the stat sheet once again, erasing her career high in points as UND rebounded from a slow start to steamroll its in-state foe. UND trailed 11-7 on three MSU triples but scored 12 straight points en route to a half-ending 41-14 run to head to the halftime locker room enjoying a 48-25 advantage.
MSU (8-3) got the lead down to 19 at one point in the second frame, but a quick 9-0 run, including seven from
Makailah Dyer, pushed the lead back over two dozen. UND held the Comets without a field goal for nearly five minutes and piled up a 36-point cushion in the process as the home team cruised to the finish line.
North Dakota got career nights from a host of players in the win. Junior
Emily Thompson went 5-for-5 from the floor for a career best 10 points and sophomore
Katie Klapprodt hit a pair of threes in just 12 minutes to etch a career high with eight points.
Ellen Kiser (6) and
Bailey Strand (5) each collected career nights in rebounds as well.
UND (8-3) heads to South Dakota Sunday from the DakotaDome. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
