GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Six players finished in double-figures as the Fighting Sioux women's basketball team took at 96-42 victory over Minot State on Sunday afternoon in front of a Betty Engelstad Sioux Center crowd of 1,959.
The victory maintained North Dakota's unbeaten streak at home and moved it to 12-10 on the season.
Senior Danye Guinn led the Sioux with 15 points. The St. Francis, Minn. native shot 5-for-11 with four three-pointers and was 1-for-1 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds and a career-high 10 assists.
Also with top finishes were senior Kierah Kimbrough (Greenbush, Minn.) and junior Kayla Bagaason (Clearbrook, Minn.) who tallied 14 points apiece. Kimbrough was 7-for-12 shooting while Bagaason went 2-for-3 from behind the arc.
Junior Jossy Bergan (Valley City, N.D.), redshirt freshman Kirstie Gillett, and junior Alys Seay (Grand Forks, N.D.) recorded 13, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
Gillett's point total set a new career high for the Tolna, N.D. native.
Each player got on the board for UND. Junior Whitney Ledger (Bismarck, N.D.) scored nine points, and sophomores Mallory Youngblut (Davenport, Iowa) and Corey Lof (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) pitched in five points.
Dora Garza was the only Minot State player to finish in double-digits. She tallied 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 shooting from the three-point line. MSU's top scorer, Lashay Bagsby recorded nine points.
The Sioux finished 52.2 percent (36-for-69) from the field and 86.7 percent (13-for-15) from the charity stripe. They were also 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from the three-point line.
UND scored 40 points off of Minot State's 29 turnovers and tallied 18 steals. Fourteen points were scored on fast breaks.
Kimbrough scored the first two baskets for the Fighting Sioux and led them on a 12-0 run over the Beavers. With five minutes and 51 seconds off the clock, the Minot State had yet to register on the board.
Forty-three seconds later, Silverling scored the first basket for MSU. It would be the last field goal for Minot until ... when Folven found the net following a pair of free throws. By then, the Sioux had taken a 21-6 lead.
Down the stretch, the Beavers were able to make their first run of the game, a 7-1 advantage. The run was put to an end by back-to-back three-pointers from Guinn and Bergan. With the addition of two free throws from Ledger with .02 on the clock, the Fighting Sioux went into the break with a 42-23 lead over Minot State.
Another big run by the Sioux to start the second half ? a 12-0 advantage ? helped UND to a 54-25 lead. Siverling ended the streak with a free throw, but Seay fired back with eight straight points to move the Sioux into a 60-26 lead.
Over the next six minutes, North Dakota out-scored the Beavers 16-4. Guinn knocked down a pair of three's and Gillett scored her first four points of the ball game.
To end it, the Sioux went on the run again and outscored MSU 11-2 to take the game, 96-42.
The Sioux will have a week off before taking to the court again. Next on the schedule is a Saturday afternoon game against Seattle. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Seattle, Wash.
