OMAHA, Neb.--The typical victory format for UND's women's basketball team is to ride the play of post players Ashley Langen and Kierah Kimbrough, with Whitney Ledger coming off the bench.
Today, with all three facing first-half foul trouble, the Sioux perimeter players took a bow in the spotlight, leading top-ranked UND to an 86-55 win over Nebraska-Omaha this afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Junior guard Danye Guinn (St. Francis, Minn.) scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Sioux, who bounced back from last week's first loss of the season in impressive fashion.
Guinn and fellow guards Karla Beck (Sr., Munich, N.D.), Alys Seay (So., Grand Forks) and Mallory Youngblut (Fr., Davenport, Iowa) each came up with several key shots, perhaps none bigger than Guinn's three-pointer with 1:17 left in the first half that put the Sioux up by 10 at 40-30. Up until that point, the Mavericks had been able to stay within striking distance of the Sioux, but Guinn's triple gave UND its biggest lead, one that would remain in double-digits the rest of the way.
Beck, meanwhile, provided an efficient 12-point/5-assist/4-rebound/3-steal performance, and her fast break layup with 7:32 left in the second half capped an 18-5 Sioux run that put the game well out of reach at 67-44.
Making matters worse for UNO was the fact that Langen, Kimbrough and Ledger all managed to assert themselves despite the foul trouble.
Langen went 7-for-8 from the field en route to a 14-point performance that also included a game-high nine rebounds and three assists.
Ledger added 11 points and seven boards, while Kimbrough chipped in with 10 points.
Back on the outside, Seay had seven points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Youngblut hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with seven points.
Amanda Brodsack scored a team-high 13 points for the Mavericks, who shot just 30.2 percent from the field. UND, meanwhile, connected on 54.1 percent from the outside and knocked down seven three-pointers, one shy of the team's season high.
UNO was also done in by 22 turnovers.
The Fighting Sioux, now 18-1 overall and 3-1 in the NCC, will return home to host Minnesota State next Thursday and Augustana on Saturday.
Notes: Langen now has 997 career rebounds, leaving her three away from joining Jenny Crouse (1995-98) as the only players in program history to reach the 1,000 plateau ... Kimbrough moved past Dona Corcoran (1980-84) for 18th on UND's all-time scoring list.
