GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's soccer team capped its non-conference slate with a 16-0 victory over North Dakota State College of Science on Sunday at Bronson Field. The Fighting Hawks improve to 4-3-1 on the season and turn their attention to Summit League play.
UND records its second consecutive winning non-conference season, following a 6-3-1 mark in 2025.
The Fighting Hawks scheduled Sunday's contest in early September to make up for the team's Aug. 22 match against Eastern Michigan, which was canceled due to weather.
The 16-goal victory marks the largest margin of victory in program history, surpassing the previous record of 12 goals set in a 12-0 win at Alcorn State during the 2018 season. The 16 goals also mark the most goals scored in a single match in program history and the most goals scored at Bronson Field.
The Hawks found the back of the net nine times in the opening half, with eight different Fighting Hawks scoring. UND added seven more goals in the second half, with two additional Hawks finding the back of the net for the first time in the contest.
Julia Goncalves and
Payton McKnight led the way with three goals each. The Fighting Hawks recorded 13 assists,
Linnea Peltonen and
Jojo Muelhaupt each had three.
The contest also provided an opportunity for UND to utilize its depth, with 13 Fighting Hawks entering the match off the bench. Several players recorded more than 30 minutes of action as the Hawks continued to prepare for the start of conference play.
North Dakota opens Summit League play Thursday when it welcomes rival North Dakota State to Bronson Field. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
POSTGAME NOTES
- UND recorded 66 shots, setting a new program record. The previous record was 56 shots against Jamestown during the 2025 season.
- Two goalkeepers saw action for the Fighting Hawks. Jacque Worden started in goal and played the first half before Jacinda Hevesy-Rodriguez took over in the second half.
- UND committed just three fouls in the contest.
- The Fighting Hawks recorded 15 corner kicks, including 10 in the first half.
