GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota soccer team rallied back for a 3-1 victory over Jamestown on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 213 at Bronson Field in Grand Forks, N.D.
With the win, UND improves to 4-0-0 on the season to mark the first time since 2018 that the Fighting Hawks have been unbeaten through four games and the first time since 2005 that the program has won its first four contests.
It would not come easy for the hosts, however, as Jamestown took an early lead less than five minutes into the contest. Despite a 27-3 shot advantage by the Fighting Hawks, it was the Jimmies who carried the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Coming out of the intermission, UND finally broke through in the 66th minute when
Charlie Basinet stripped her defender of the ball and threaded a perfect pass to
Cora Ellermann, where the junior blasted it off the crossbar and into the net to bring the score level at 1-1.
On the same afternoon that UND honored its seniors and fifth-year players, it was fifth year
Alisha Maake who gave the hosts the lead for good when she deposited an Ellermann corner into the back of the net to make it 2-1 UND in the 73rd minute.
Moments later, UND added a third goal and it was Ellermann again making a play. The junior danced around her defender and fired a shot into the twine for her second goal of the afternoon and third of the season to secure the 3-1 NoDak victory.
North Dakota will hit the road once again for a pair of contests next week, beginning on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Jackson State.
