Curry betters shot put record on final day in California

LONG BEACH, Calif. – North Dakota wrapped up its week in California on Saturday with the throwers finishing up competition at the Beach Invitational. Kenna Curry set a new school record at the meet.

Curry finished fourth in the invitational shot put and bettered her own school record with a PR toss of 51-11 1/4 (15.83m). She improved her previous record mark of 51-9 1/4 (15.78m), which she set at the 2023 Summit League Outdoor Championships. She currently ranks No. 27 in the NCAA West Region with her throw.

Earlier in the meet, Curry was also in the invitational discus and made finals but finished one-spot outside placing territory. She led the Fighting Hawks in the competition with a mark of 165-9 (50.52m).

Ethan Thomas was the runner-up in the men's invitational shot put with a throw of 63-3 1/4 (19.28m). He was also in the invitational discus and did not place but was the top Hawk in the event with a distance of 160-1 (48.80m).

North Dakota will make the trek to Minneapolis this Wednesday for the Gary Wilson Invitational.
