GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota volleyball team fell in three sets to South Dakota State (20-25, 13-25, 11-25) on Thursday night from the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. UND falls to 5-14 and 2-6 in conference play, while the Jackrabbits improve to 14-3 and 8-0 in the Summit League.
The match featured seven ties and three total lead changes, as the Hawks were led offensively by Mattie Dalton and 
Paige Barber with six kills apiece. Barber recorded her 900th career kill in the first set.
Vanessa Washington recorded four kills on a .273 hit percentage, along with four blocks (one solo). 
Izzie McCormick had a team-high 10 digs and two service aces, while 
Sadie White dished out 19 assists and logged nine digs.
UND came out hot in set one, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, with two of the points coming via a McCormick service ace and a Dalton kill. The two teams then exchanged a point to give UND a 5-1 advantage, before SDSU went on a 7-3 run to tie it at 8-8. After two points each from the squads, SDSUthen  took its first lead at 11-10, as the Jackrabbits opened up a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. From there they went on a 10-7 run to end the frame, winning set one 25-20.
The Hawks fell behind 6-0 in set two and trailed by as many as 12. UND was down 10-4 and conceded a 5-0 run to go down 15-4, eventually dropping the set, 25-13.
UND remained within striking distance for a good portion of set three, trailing just 7-5 through 12 points. An 8-2 Jackrabbits pushed their lead to 15-7 and from there SDSU went on a 10-4 run to win set three, 25-11.
North Dakota will be back home against Kansas City on Thursday at 7 p.m.
