GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a commanding 62-42 victory over Bethel University on Saturday afternoon at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The win improves the Fighting Hawks to 4-7 on the season.
UND set the tone early with a dominant effort on both sides of the court, holding the Royals to just eight points in the first quarter.
Nevaeh Ferrara Horne put up nine points of the Hawks' 15 first-quarter points, propelling UND to a seven-point lead. The Fighting Hawks carried their momentum into the second quarter, taking a 31-16 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw UND extend their lead with their most productive offensive performance of the game, outscoring Bethel 24-12. The Hawks shot an efficient 61.1% from the field during the quarter.
Despite cooling off in the final frame, UND maintained control with their strong defense, holding Bethel to 14 points and securing the 20-point victory.
The Hawks remain at the Betty to host Mayville State on December 17 at 7 p.m.
Postgame Notes:
- Kiera Pemberton led all scorers with 15 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
- Nevaeh Ferrara Horne added 12 points, hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range.
- Walker Demers contributed eight points and four rebounds, while Fatima Ibrahim tallied 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Ibrahim had a career-high four blocks.
- Joceyln Schiller and Jayla Owen led the team with four assists each.
- UND out-rebounded Bethel 39-28 and forced 30 turnovers, scoring 15 points off those miscues.
- The Hawks dominated the paint with 24 points, compared to 16 for Bethel.
- NoDak outshot Bethel 38.1% (24-of-63) to 35% (14-of-40). From the perimeter the Hawks shot 31% (9-of-29) to the Royals 27.3% (3-of-11).
- UND went a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
