Aggressive Eagles Ground Hawks, 75-52

TULSA, Okla. - Despite hot-shooting in the second quarter, the University of North Dakota (12-5, 2-1 Summit) couldn't get the shots to drop in the second half as Oral Roberts (7-10, 2-1 Summit) attacked post with ferocity to down UND, 75-52.

Claire Orth closed the contest with eight points as she led the Fighting Hawk lineup on the floor, adding a steal and five rebounds. Julia Fleecs also added eight points while Lilly Keplin and Maggie Manson led UND scoring with nine points each. ORU had five scorers in double figures led by Nena Taylor off the bench at 16.

"We did some uncharacteristic things defensively. We don't double the post unless we feel like there's someone really dominant, so we would get caught doubling the post, and they got an easy score out of it," said Head Coach Travis Brewster. "We got to play together a little better, but we're a young team that keeps getting better, but we were a little all over the place. We weren't on the same page, and that's the key to winning ball games on the road, especially in conference."

North Dakota attacked the basket early, forcing three Oral Roberts personal fouls in the opening 2.5 minutes of play and four in the quarter. However, the Golden Eagles controlled the boards (12-8) and held a 13-6 lead in the stanza.

After a pair of layups built an 11-point Oral Robert lead, Coach Brewster called a timeout in the opening 58-seconds of the period. The UND offense, which opened the game shooting 14-percent from the field, hit nine of its 16 shots in the quarter that settled the team and closed the gap at halftime, 35-29.

Alaina Jarnot hit three-straight field goals in the soft spot of Oral Roberts zone, just outside the key, as she led the Fighting Hawks with six points at halftime. Jaclyn Jarnot and Orth each contributed four points as well, while Fleecs add five.

The Golden Eagles regained their footing in the third quarter, however, as they maintained a double-digit lead for most of the period, shooting 56-percent from the field and outscoring UND, 21-11.

Oral Roberts did not relent in the fourth as it stood resolute and went on to lead by as much as 25 in the ball game.

North Dakota will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 16, at South Dakota State, tipping off at Frost Arena at 7 p.m. Central.
