Tyler Burmeister joined the University of North Dakota in the Fall of 2017 and currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director of Student-Athlete Development where he oversees the personal, professional, and leadership development of UND student-athletes. His primary roles include facilitating the student-athlete leadership academy (Hawkademy) and UNIV 101: Introduction to University Life courses, serving as a primary advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (UND SAAC) and secondary advisor for The Hidden Opponent (UND THO), assisting student-athletes with their career exploration & development, highlighting student-athlete achievements for awards recognition and honors, and overseeing all community service initiatives.
Since his time at UND, the department has continuously earned national honors and recognition for community service, including winning two NCAA Team Works Challenge championships during the 2021-22 and 2023-24 academic years. Under his advisement, the UND Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has received multiple Summit League honors, including back-to-back Summit League Food Fight Championships in 2023-24 & 2024-25, and the 2024-25 Summit League SAAC Cup. Recognized for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, Burmeister was selected as a keynote speaker for the UND LEADS Strategic Plan unveiling in 2023, speaking on the core value of "Affinity." In 2021, Burmeister was named the inaugural UND Changemaker by CVIC@UND for his work in creating positive change to one day end relationship and sexual violence.Â
Also in 2021, Burmeister and UND launched the NoDak Net app, aimed to serve as an incubator for career development and mentorships between current UND student-athletes and UND athletics alumni. In 2024, NoDak Net was discontinued by the app's oversight company which inspired a transition to the "Know, Grow, Go" framework to maximize the utility of student-athlete development programming for the benefit of UND student-athletes, the greater student body, and the Grand Forks community.Â
