Paul Ralston

Ralston serves as the Assistant Athletics Director for Broadcast Properties since his elevation in July 2022, but has enjoyed a broadcasting career for the departement since his hiring in 2006. 

Ralston began his broadcasting career in 1995 when he began attending the University of North Dakota. His early career saw him calling many high school games in the sports of football, basketball and hockey. He has worked as Sports Director in his early years in local radio, and in 2002 won a North Dakota Broadcasters Association “Teddy Award”, for best Sports Play by Play call that season.

In 2006, Ralston began his University of North Dakota Sports broadcast career by becoming the radio voice of women’s basketball, where he would serve in that roll through 2012. During North Dakota’s time in the Great West Conference, Ralston became the radio voice of men’s basketball, a role that he is proud to serve to this current day. He also has held the role as the UND football sideline reporter for the last decade. Ralston has also had the chance to step in and call, numerous North Dakota volleyball, soccer and softball games in his career and counts as some of his highlights to have been a part of the Great West Conference pair of titles in 2012, anchoring and calling all the Big Sky Volleyball Tournament matches in 2016 at The Betty, which resulted in a trip the NCAA Tournament. The Big Sky clinching title game for UND football in 2016, and of course the 2017 men’s basketball Big Sky Regular & Tournament Championships with a trip to NCAA Tournament.

When University of North Dakota Athletics made the move to manage its broadcasting and sales in-house early in the Division I transition era, Ralston was brought on board as the Director of Sales within the department. The role has evolved since to the Director of Broadcasting in which he served as a daily liaison with Flagship radio stations and Learfield regarding scheduling, addressing technical issues, commercial inventory placement, to provide necessary materials for broadcast talent. He also developed the two-minute daily radio update Sioux Sports Today that has evolved to UND Sports Today and Fighting Hawks Daily and is carried by many stations on the radio network to this day.

Ralston also has been the morning co-host along-side 42-year hockey play-by-play voice Tim Hennessy of a 6-9 a.m. morning show on 1440 AM The Fan.

In his free time, Ralston enjoys playing golf along with spending times friends and family, along with trying to improve his grilling skills.
