Biography

Kara Helmig serves as the associate athletics director for internal operations. Helmig oversees all aspects of compliance and student-sthlete support services. She also serves on the athletic department’s senior management team and has sport supervision of volleyball, softball and women's golf. Helmig is a deputy Title IX coordinator on UND's campus and is the liaison for the UND's Women's Athletics Leadership Council. 

Helmig came to UND from California State University, Fresno, where she had served as compliance coordinator since July 2007. While at Fresno State, Helmig was responsible for initial academic and amateurism eligibility and monitoring all recruiting activities and playing and practice season activities. She also assisted the director of compliance with rules interpretations, rules education and the reporting of violations to the conference and NCAA.

Prior to that, Helmig was the compliance assistant in the office of compliance at Tulane University for two years, assisting the director of compliance in all daily operations.

Helmig also possesses NCAA experience, having worked for the organization’s enforcement services department in 2006 as a summer staff member. While with the NCAA, Helmig was responsible for processing secondary cases involving institutional responsibility and assisted with major violations.

Helmig graduated from the Tulane Law School in May 2007 with a Juris Doctor and a Sports Law Certificate. She received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Notre Dame in 2004.
