Peyerl climbs into top-5 at Bluejay Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota men's golf team put together a strong performance at the Bluejay Invitational, hosted by Creighton, closing out the event on Tuesday from Shadow Ridge Country Club from Omaha, Neb. 

The Fighting Hawks were firing on all cylinders throughout the entire 54-hole, two-day event to finish seventh overall with a team score of 871 (+7), sitting just eight strokes behind the school record of 863. North Dakota State captured the team title with an 847 (-17) while Creighton's Grant Feldman won the individual crown with a 207 (-9). 

Junior Nathan Peyerl was the story of the tournament for North Dakota, as the junior notched his second top-5 finish of his career. The West Fargo, N.D., native finished with a 211 (-5) to sit tied for fifth and just four shots back of the individual title while also improving his score over each round, including a 68 (-4) over the final 18 holes. 

Freshman Carver Larson just missed a top-20 appearance of his own, placing tied for 23rd with a 217 (+1). The Alexandria, Minn., native opened his event with a 70 (-2) thanks to five birdies before closing his week with a 74 (+2) and 73 (+1). 

Joseph Kortan climbed up the leaderboard into a tie for 37th with a 221 (+5) while Carson Skarperud took the course as an individual and finished just one shot back with a 222 (+6) to place tied for 39th thanks to matching his career-low 70 (-2) over his final 18 holes. 

Landon Miller and Kagan Kollar rounded out the scoring for UND, finishing tied for 55th with a 227 (+11) and tied for 62nd with a 233 (+17), respectively. 

North Dakota will jump right back into action next week at the Zach Johnson Invitational in West Des Moines, Iowa beginning on Monday, Sept. 22.
