Fighting Hawks add eight top-three finishes at USD Tune-Up

VERMILLION, S.D. – North Dakota added eight top-three finishes to its total at the USD Tune-Up on Saturday. The Fighting Hawks also recorded four upgrades to the UND top-10 list on day two of the meet.

Jory Vasek was the runner-up in the 400 meters and bettered his own school record with a PR of 47.12. His previous school record was 47.33, set at the Bryan Clay Invitational two weeks ago.

Later in the meet, Vasek took third in the 200 meters and tied the No. 3 time in program history with a personal-best time of 21.48.

In the women's 400 meters, Jerzie Finstad was the runner-up in 53.65. Teammate Kimberly Hitchen was also in the race and recorded a PR of 55.99, which now ranks No. 6 in school history.

Marta Marksa and Jiri Ceska were the final Hawks to finish in the top-three on the track in their respective events. Marksa was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.85, while Jiri Ceska took second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.14.

Cruz Megazzini added his name to the UND top-10 list in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 10.82, which now sits No. 10 in school history.

Ethan Thomas had the top finish for North Dakota in a field event and was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 174-9 (53.27m).

Malene Kollberg and Tiffanie Magnusson both tied for third place in the long jump with matching marks of 19-1 1/4 (5.82m).

North Dakota will conclude its regular season in Fargo at the NDSU Tune-Up on Friday.
